As a top compostable film, RTG Films offers a vast selection of polylactide (PLA) compostable clear plastic film in gauges of 80,100, 120, and 140. Our contract slitting services allow us to convert large rolls of PLA plastic film into various diameters, widths, and thicknesses.

What Is PLA Film?

RTG Films is proud to provide its eco-conscious customers with a vast selection of flexible, clear PLA film of various thicknesses. PLA film is a biodegradable film made from readily available plant based feedstocks like plants, corn starch, and sugarcane. As part of our commitment to providing our customers with an eco-friendly product, these feedstocks do not come from established global food chains.

The feedstock used to make clear PLA packaging film comes from what would otherwise be discarded refuse from agricultural production. Using portions of agricultural production that cannot be sold for consumption, our clear PLA food packaging film is the quintessential definition of a renewable, environmentally friendly, and fully sustainable packaging film solution.

Clear PLA food packaging film is produced from feedstock such as leaves, plants, and husks of corn and sugarcane. This renewable compostable plastic film is completely transparent and has no odors, and no trace of petroleum, while looking and feeling like any other plastic film used in packaging. This means food producers can use a biodegradable clear packaging film that helps to distinguish their brand as an environmentally friendly, eco-conscious brand.

A true environmentally friendly solution, our PLA film converts into carbon dioxide and water within 90 days of being composted.

RTG Films has been a mainstay for companies needing environmentally friendly compostable packaging film suppliers. We are among a few suppliers whose solutions have been helping commercial and industrial companies in the pharmaceutical, medical, confectionery, food, and consumer-based products markets provide perfectly sealed packages.

Whether it’s our PLA compostable film for food or our vacuum skin packaging – VSP film – for meat, poultry, sausage, cheese, and ready meals producers requiring an ultra-thin clear plastic film with superior formability, excellent drip retention, high puncture resistance, and great adhesion qualities, our solutions aim to provide you with numerous solutions.

In addition to our PLA compostable food packaging film and VSP film, RTG also provides polyethylene, lidding, printed, polypropylene, printed, and lamination film. These clear, flexible packaging film solutions are matched to the specific packaging applications our customers require. As an AIB-certified facility, we go the extra mile to ensure that our environmentally friendly PLA compostable film and our other films meet thickness, clarity, and heat/UV requirements.

When industrial composted, the film will breakdown and revert to carbon dioxide and water within 90-days.

What Makes PLA Film Different From Other Films?

Most suppliers of thermoplastic resins (plastic) use petrochemical feedstocks to make clear plastic film or plastic products. These suppliers rely upon either natural gas or crude oil feedstocks. Natural gas feedstocks produce methane which is converted to methanol and ethane, propane, and butane to produce ethylene, propylene, and butylene feedstock. In terms of crude oil, naphtha is converted to benzene, toluene, and xylene feedstock.

Ultimately, these petrochemical-based feedstocks are nowhere near as environmentally friendly as the feedstock used for our clear PLA film. As a bio-based film, the plastic resin used to make our compostable food packaging film is derived from carbon atoms that are drawn from biomass feedstocks. This means that when our compostable PLA packaging film biodegrades, there are no metal or microplastic shards or pieces.

Why Compostable Flexible Packaging Is the Best Option for Eco-Conscious Companies

As the public’s consciousness towards eco-friendly business practices continues to evolve, it’s becoming increasingly important for businesses to consider environmental sustainability and responsibility. RTG Films believes in offering products that corporations can be proud of and compostable flexible packaging is at the forefront of that mission. Compostable film is a sure-fire way to reduce environmental impact and avoid leaving behind harmful residue that can mitigate the natural environment. These compostable films are designed to break down in an industrial compost setting, further reducing your company’s environmental footprint. Another advantage of compostable film has to do with the ever-changing regulatory requirements imposed upon businesses. These compostable films can present a proactive remedy to an issue that has yet to present itself.

Being able to tout a compostable film as your dedicated packaging solution can help separate your business from others in the industry that may not pride themselves on eco-conscious methods. Additionally, these compostable films don’t lack in performance either as their biodegradable nature has no bearing on the durability and capable barrier properties it can provide. Providing transparency to your customers is an excellent way to establish goodwill amidst a sea of competitors who share too little about what’s being offered. Make sure your business is on the right side of history and of Mother Earth with our compostable flexible packaging film!
